Big Bird

A male Southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri) with its bright red throat is walking in dried grass, foraging for insects and small reptiles and mammals. The largest hornbill in the world, living up to 70 years, the species is endangered in South Africa due to habitat destruction and shooting. A breeding program, the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project, is helping in the recovery of the species.

Excellent shot Terry! I saw one of these are the Bird place we visited in NC. They can be really viscous when pounding away with that bill! Lovely shot!
