  • Happy Robbie Burns Day!<br /> <br /> I wanted to do something a little creative for Robbie Burns Day. This attempt combines a Scottish thistle with some bottles of scotch. Best seen at larger sizes (or after having consumed the contents of the bottles LOL)
  • Still life with nuts and blueberries<br /> <br /> I was inspired this weekend to try a still life when I saw the glass bowl full of nuts on the kitchen counter. The first shot was OK, but need a little colour, so I sprinkled on some blueberries. Shot with natural light from the window at f22, ISO1600, by placing the bowl on the floor and using a tripod. And I didn't even have to leave the house LOL.
  • A sign of spring; time to plant primulas outdoors in Vancouver!<br /> <br /> This photo was taken outdoors in natural light in the shade at F22, ISO 400, 1/10 sec. The white pot made a nice circular frame around the flowers. The photo edges were darkened in photoshop.
  • Poinsetta with 'ladybug'<br /> <br /> The lady bug is a small fridge magnet that lives in my kitchen; thought it would add a sign of spring to the photo. This is a poinsetta from Christmas 2011 that lived outdoors all summer. Since the formation of the colour bracts is light sensitive, when I brought it indoors in the fall, I gave a cycle of 12 hours light and 12 hours dark. It worked!

  • Forest reflections, Vancouver BC<br /> <br /> The small ponds left by the winter rains are almost perfect reflecting pools for even hugs trees such as this one that is over 100 ft tall

  • Self portrait with dog, Vancouver, BC<br /> <br /> Like many photographers, I rarely have photos of myself. Today I had a tripod set up to catch the moss-covered branches on our dog walk, and needed some 'human interest' in the shot. So I set the camera on the self-timer, grabbed the dog and walked down the path (he is usually off leash, but having him in the right position for this shot required a leash).
  • Moss-covered branches with lens flare, Vancouver, BC<br /> <br /> I am fortunate to live across the street from 7 square km of natural forest in the middle of the city, which is a great place for dog walks. Whenever friends come for a dog walk they always exclaim over this area with beautiful moss-covered branches. Each time I go by, I think about angles to capture a photo of this area. Today the sun was out and the light was good, so I went back home and grabbed my camera and tripod. The light may have been a little too contrasty, so another day I would like to try this area with a high cloud cover, and maybe try a B/W conversion.<br /> <br /> For a rare self portrait, plus some photos of some beautiful reflections in the forest ponds and another lens flare photo, see here: <a href="http://goo.gl/fcgRI">http://goo.gl/fcgRI</a>.
