Alternate 'M' is for mushrooms munched by mole

I noticed these puffball mushrooms lurking under a bush when I return from my trip today. A mole or a slug appears have been dining on one of them.

 • 'J' is for juniper (best seen at large sizes)

Another one from my garden. This is a four-fold reflection, with some processing to make it more interesting. The original can be seen here: http://goo.gl/I1beZh

About replicates: I notice that comments are often replicated in new SmugMug, sometimes several times. My comments on your SM Daily Photos have also been replicated. This affects the rankings. To quote Rick Willis in his introductory starter comment everyday, we want the Dailies to be "HONEST, FAIR and EQUITABLE to ALL". The only one who can delete replicates is the one who posted the photo, and not the person whose comments were inadvertently replicated. I try to delete your replicates when I see them appearing on my photos. Do you think we should be encouraging each other to delete replicates?
 • 'J' is for juniper, original file before processing
 • 'K' is for kale

When I went out to the garden a couple of mornings ago to photograph my winter kale plant, I found it covered with tiny drops of dew. The curly edges of the leaves with the tiny round droplets of dew made for an interesting texture.
 • 'L' is for Lovely Lupines (better at larger sizes)

This photo is not from my garden, but I like it for 'L'. However, my alternate 'L' today IS from my garden, and can be seen here: http://goo.gl/A9cLGG
• Alternative 'L' is for Laurel Leaves

Still managing to find stuff in my garden for the alphabet challenge, but it will be difficult to make it past the middle of the alphabet now that the cold weather is coming. I also have Lavender, Lettuce and Leeks in the garden, but it was pouring rain today when I photographed the laurel and I didn't want to get the camera any wetter.

Laurel leaves have a lot of symbolic value in Western cultures. They are a symbol of victory in athletic competitions, victory in war, academic achievement, or achievement in the arts. Many expressions come from laurels including 'poet laureate', 'resting on one's laurels', 'look to one's laurels', 'laurel wreath', 'baccalaureate, etc.
 • Original 'M' for mums before applying spherical filter.

 • 'M' is for mums

Well I made it halfway through the alphabet using photos from my garden. Applying a spherical filter gave interest to the composition of an open mum flower and two buds, and makes it look like the flowers are encased in a large bubble. Now comes the hard part; not sure I have an 'N' for next week.

Update: just realized that the pink also could represent breast cancer awareness month.

The original and also my alternate 'M', which is munched mushrooms, can be seen here: http://goo.gl/E1rFRf
• 'N' is for New Narcissi

The only 'N' I could find from my garden was a package of Narcissus bulbs that I had bought to plant this fall. I spread the bulbs around the package illustration and took a photo but, quite frankly, it looked very uninteresting. So I started to play around with filters to get an 'Old Masters Oil Painting' look. I still think the result is rather disappointing and not up to my usual standards. Sorry!
• Fall leaves and spider web #4, Vancouver, BC (best larger)

We've had a lot of fog in Vancouver the last few days and the fall crop of spider's webs at the daily dog walk are covered with tiny droplets of water, making nice images against the colourful fall leaves.

Other shots of the spider webs, with and without spiders, can be seen here: http://goo.gl/hPzLzL
• 'R' is for ripe rosy red raspberries

I have some ever bearing raspberries in my vegetable garden that produce both a summer and a fall crop. Although a little the worse for wear, they are still bearing, since we haven't had a hard frost yet. The radishes and rhubarb are finished.

For my experimental 'R' shot, see here: http://goo.gl/REn8FV
• 'R' is for red

Experimental shot playing with a photo of red crab apples. The crab apples had a light touch of frost on them and were shot from underneath against a white sky. I replaced the white sky with a shade of red.
 • Wildflower meadow with poppies and lupines. Mount Baker is on the horizon, but is covered with clouds in this shot.
 • Icelandic and California poppies with linaria in a wildflower meadow
 • Poppies and grasses in a wildflower meadow
 • From my archives, two poppies standing in a field of forget-me-nots as a Remembrance Day tribute to all of our veterans.

For several years I worked on reclaiming a half acre of blackberry thicket (all by hand in order to preserve the indigneous species that remained!) at my summer place and turning it into a natural wildflower meadow. I certainly didn't realize when I started just how much hard work it would involve every year to keep it naturalized, and keep out the invasive species! Finally, keeping it up, plus growing my organic vegetable garden, became too much work for me, and I sold the summer place. Some other photos from the meadow can be seen here: http://goo.gl/4ABas7
Nice alternate 'M'. I haven't seen any puffballs this year. If I had, they'd go straight into the skillet for sautéing.
