My newish Sigma lens (150-500 mm) had to go in for repair a couple of times since I bought it less than 12 months ago (aufofocus failure), so Sigma replaced it last week with a new lens. Thought I would take a break from editing my foreign photos and get out locally this weekend to check out the replacement lens. So far, so good. At the larger sizes, you can see the apple 'sauce' on the bird's beak.

The irony of having hunters wander along the dyke trails dangling their own 'capture' among the photographers and bird watchers didn't escape me.

There were dozens of young eagles perched in the trees today out by the Delta Dykes. I liked how the bare branches, with the tips just starting to leaf out, formed a background for the eagle.
This is a young bald eagle; they develop their white heads and tails when they are 4-5 years old.

I've been busy trying to get my computer problems solved and there were so many great images yesterday, I ran out of time to comment on them; apologies if I missed yours! Today I have posted several snowy owl photos; you can see more here http://goo.gl/b0Pfp

Most of the snowy owls have left now, but there were 2 or 3 down at the Delta Dykes on Friday afternoon around 4 pm. What was special was that it was a sunny afternoon and Mount Baker had 'lifted its veil'. It is rare to see the whole mountain like this during the winter months, and even more rare to be able to be able to photograph both the mountain and a snowy owl!! It was just serendipity that I decided to brave the tunnel traffic and go down to the dykes on Friday afternoon, and that there was a snowy owl within lens distance!

Truly stunning landscape, utterly matched by the superbly looking roosting perch for the owl !!! Love the composition and the colours !
