The three tenors
Trio of almost fledged Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) in full voice and formal attire, Magdalena Island, Chile. The juveniles are fully clad in their adult feathers and ready to go to sea at the end of March. They reappear on shore in September to breed. They are classified as threatened due to oil spills (the Strait of Magellan in a major shipping channel) and to climate change that affects the location of fish populations, and also increasing temperatures bring rain rather than snow, which wets the chicks whose downy feathers aren't waterproof, so they can die of hypothermia.
