Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, British Columbia. This terminal take passengers to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands and functions as part of British Columbia's marine highway system. A ride on the ferries is a good way to celebrate Father's Day and the start of summer!

Other photos taken from the ferry that I took recently over to Vancouver Island can be seen here: http://goo.gl/qw14G8

This is a similar shot to a previous one, except in this case it another part of the walkway where the 'X' of the walkway is offset and doesn't meet in the middle. At larger sizes you can see there are two gulls, one on the post and one on the walkway.

 • Deltaport container terminal (best larger)

Deltaport, at Roberts Bank in Delta, BC, is the largest container terminal in Canada, with a current capacity of 1.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers). The terminal is designed to handle the largest transpacific container vessels in service and features dual-hoist gantry cranes—the first in the Americas—in its fleet of ten high-speed, super post-Panamax cranes (best larger)

The ferry I was on did a big circle past the container port to reset its gyro compass, so I was able to get some good close shots.

Westshore coal terminal is the busiest single coal export terminal in North America. Two bulk carriers can be seen loading at the terminal.

 • 13 shot photomerge of Roberts Bank Superport

The original merge is a humongous 670 mB file that results in a 14 ft long print at 300 dpt, so this is a downsized version. The detail is amazing and is worth opening the original (downsized) version and scrolling all the way across.

Two bulk carriers can be seen loading at the coal terminal, and two container ships are loading at the container terminal.

When I took the ferry to Vancouver Island last week, the ferry did a large circle by the superport to reset its compass. I was on the upper deck with my D810 when the circle took us near the Superport, so I took 13 photos (hand held) of the entire length of the Westpost Coal Terminal and the adjacent Deltaport container terminal and photomerged them in Photoshop. Quite the largest file I've ever produced.

If this is too large a file for your computer, you can see separate 7 image photomerges of the coal terminal and the container terminal here, plus two 'normal' shots: http://goo.gl/bBSQnE
The Entrance Island Lighthouse is a manned light station that was completed in 1876. It is off the coast of Vancouver Island at the entrance to Nanaimo harbour from the Strait of Georgia. The Lighthouse Friends are active againt the plans of the Canadian government to de-staff the lighthouse and many other manned BC lighthouses. For those who are interested in lighthouses, a list of numerous staffed and de-staffed lighthouses in British Columbia with maps and photos can be seen here. http://www.fogwhistle.ca/bclights/
