Butedale was founded on Princess Royal Island, British Columbia in 1918, and it is accessible only by boat. It was a base for fishing, mining and logging. At its peak the population of Butedale was over 400 people. but it's now a ghost town. It was, for many years, the site of a salmon cannery that ceased operations in the 1950s. The Butedale Founders Association has talked about restoring the town but it is quickly falling to ruin. The wharf has been maintained and is used as a base for boaters and fishers visiting the area. The site is for sale.
