In the spring the high snowfields in the Cascade Mountains of the Great Bear Rainforest start to melt and the water cascades down the walls of the fjords into the sea.

Salmon farming is very controversial in British Columbia and a lot of BC residents, myself included, refuse to eat farmed salmon as there is evidence that salmon farming, particularly open pen farms, is threatening the survival of the wild stocks. Closed containment farms, such as the one seen here can eliminate some of the hazards to the wild stocks, but are still a threat.
This area is part of the Fiordland Conservancy, a large marine park that includes one of the finest examples of glacially gouged fiords on the British Columbia coast, where sheer granite cliffs rise more than 1000 metres out of the sea. Other shots of the cliffs and waterfalls of this beautiful area can be seen here: http://goo.gl/cvCAkd
The Great Bear Rainforest has a very rich wildflower community, especially in the late spring. Several other photos of the wildflower meadows with chocolate lillies, Indian paintbrush, buttercups and Queen Anne's lace can be seen here: http://goo.gl/4y16MJ
