Zodiac and iceberg

In good weather you can get to the isolated Lighthouse Inn on Quirpon Island by taking this zodiac into Lighthouse Cove, a short walk from the Inn. When I traveled there we were greeted by this beautiful small iceberg, grounded in the cove. To the right you can see a patch of small bergy bits floating on the surface. When the weather gets windy the waves and the ice build up in the cove and it isn't safe to land there, so an alternative landing site at the opposite end of the island has to be used, involving a long trek or ATV ride up to the Inn.

  • L'anse aux Meadows is thought to be the location of the first Viking settlement in North America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this image the visitor center is framed by the 'Meeting of the two worlds' sculpture, completed in two pieces, one by Newfoundland sculptor Luben Boykov and the other by Swedish sculptor Richard Brixel. The two elements of the 3000 pound bronze sculpture symbolically correspond to the geographic points of departure and landing of the Vikings, and their subsequent meeting with Aboriginal peoples. RE: Your Curiosity regarding the lights on the lighthouse (my daily photo for today)........Yes, those are Christmas lights. I was in Biloxi, MS December 6-9, 2016) leading up to the Christmas holidays, so lots of places had Christmas lights/decorations up. I got to see the festive and gorgeous Christmas decorations at the Hard Rock Hotel and the Beau Rivage!

    Ditto Judith Sparhawk's comment below!

RE: Your Question posted along with your comment on my POTD
Funny that you would ask.....but I did decorate our kitchen table in January; and upon doing so, I knew it would be February's table setting, too. I had no problem accepting the fact that "Time" does not permit me to decorate our table setting on a monthly basis.

Looks like fog is the norm rather than the exception...

That zodiac sure looks little out there among the icebergs! Takes some real faith to navigate this part of the world.
