  • Ashol Pan competes #1 (best larger)<br /> <br /> Ashol Pan, a 14 year old girl, is Mongolia's only female eagle hunter. She competed in the competition to lure the eagle to her arm, not an easy task given the weight of the eagles. (best larger)<br /> <br /> Proud eagle standing on a rabbit skin lure, Eagle Festival, Olgii, Mongolia<br /> <br /> Lots of competitions around the world feature horses and riders, but almost none add an eagle and combine all three, so in many ways the eagle is the real star of the show. I loved the profile of this eagle with its 'crown' of golden feathers standing out around its head. <br /> <br /> Today I am featuring photos of the eagles catching the lure of rabbit skin or fox skin. In the old days the competition featured a live rabbit or fox, but this is no longer considered acceptable by the foreigners that come to the festival.<br /> <br /> A fast sequence of three shots of the capture that really shows a close-up of the action can be seen here: <a href="http://goo.gl/97Gzug">http://goo.gl/97Gzug</a><br /> <br /> I didn't do a collage, since they really should be seen at the largest size.
