  • Whoops #2 (best larger)<br /> <br /> Eagle Festival, Olgii, Western Mongolia<br /> <br /> This embarassed looking competitor appears to have lost hold of his lure, leaving a very confused looking eagle on the ground. The horse looks like it knows something has gone wrong. A few seconds later the hunter got hold of the lure and retreived his eagle.

In the years to come, she and Ashol Pan will blaze a trail for full participation of women in Mongolian society.

So the competition is based on the hunting traditions of the Kazakh herders who rely on the eagles to hunt rabbits and foxes in the winter for food and furs.
