Tridacna shell with fallen leaves

A large Tridacna shell (Tridacna gigas) sits in the garden of the Kamiichinomiya Oawa Shinto Shrine, filled with fallen leaves and water reflecting the shell. The Chinese name for tridacna, “che-qu,” is mentioned in Buddhist scriptures from the Han dynasty as being one of the seven treasures of Buddhism.
