Taisan-ji pagoda with red maples
Kiyomizudera (Pure Water Temple), of the Kita Hossa sect of Japanese Buddhism, is a popular site to visit in the fall for its red maple trees. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the hills east of Kyoto. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. This photo is of the small Taisan-Ji with its three story pagoda located a short distance from the main temple building, which affords great views of the main structure.
