Balinese long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Ubud, Bali. The monkeys at the Monkey Forest Temple are very numerous and can be quite aggressive in their pursuit of food. Tourists can be attacked if they are carrying or suspected of carrying food and the monkeys are large enough to be quite intimidating. They'll also grab bags and even cameras or camera lenses and I've seen them trying to open camera bags in case there might be food in them. This one was clearly sussing me out as a potential source of food. I even ended up wearing one I was trying to photograph on my head, but wasn't hurt. Best larger to see its look.

on August 1, 2017Terrific shot of this appealing macaque! We recently watched a documentary on wild animals (I think in India) which showed a type of monkey that would steal tourists purses or other possessions and then run just a few feet away and wait for "ransom" to be paid. So smart!
