  • Carver demonstrating the fascinating way the villagers use a carved wooden fishing device, Santa Ana Island, Solomon Islands<br /> <br /> The rope in the carver's right hand leads to a lure that is taken by the fish. The wooden top, carved in the shape of a fish, has a stone attached by fibre at its bottom that keeps it upright. When a fish takes the lure, the fisherman can see the wooden fish moving across the water and can then retrieve the device and the fish.
