The Maasai tribe are famous for their herds of cattle, and the milk and blood from the cattle features prominently in their diet. The daily routine goes as follows. Overnight the cattle are kept close to the boma to protect them from predators. At sunrise the women get ready to milk the cows by separating them from their calves. After milking the cattle are taken out to the surrounding Ngorongoro Conservation Area for grazing and then returned to the boma at the end of the day for another round of milking. In this early morning scene two of the women, dressed in traditional attire, are getting ready to separate out the calves (best larger)
