'R' is for rhino
A white rhino mother (square-lipped rhinoceros, Ceratotherium simum) grazes with her calf in the early morning light on the dried grasses on the Mabula Private Game Reserve, Limpopo Province, South Africa. This is the southern white rhino. The last living member of the northern white rhino subspecies died recently in Sudan. There are a number of white rhino on Mabula and they are heavily guarded against poaching. However, threats still exist from the South African government policies of land redistribution.
