White storks (Ciconia ciconia) are long distance migrants who fly from Europe to winter in Africa where they can be seen during the rainy season in the Serengeti. This is an older juvenile migrant seen at sunrise by Lake Ndutu, Serengeti, Tanzania.
Nice to see this stork in its southern range. I remember as a child reading about, and being entranced by, stories of storks nesting on rooftops in Holland. AND when I was there, I actually saw one! Talk about a full-circle moment.
