Butt of Lewis lighthouse
The 121 ft tall Butt of Lewis lighthouse was designed by David Stevenson in 1862 at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis, which is the windiest spot in the UK according to the Guiness Book of Records. I can certainly attest to the power of the winds when I was there. In 2014 a wave the height of the lighthouse was captured by a local photographer. The lighthouse has a Bi-form lens (two tiered synchronized LED marine lanterns), Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

4 weeks agoMY BFFL loves lighthouses and each time I see one, I think of her, of course! Rarely do I see lighthouses of earth-tone colors, which makes this one blend in with the landscape. Thanks for providing the historical information, as well.

4 weeks agoThis is such a handsome lighthouse. I love the cloudy sky. Thinking about a wave as tall as this structure is just a fantastic idea. I can almost imagine how high the winds were while you were there.
