Old growth
An ancient Western red cedar tree stands in the old growth forest saved from logging by the protests on Lyell Island, Haida Gwaii, BC, that resulted in the establishment of the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site.
Probably a few hundred years old.

on July 20, 2021Imagine everything that the old red cedar has experienced over those few hundred years--the weather it has suffered, the birds it has housed, animals it may have sheltered, the significance to the humans who honor it...and still it lives on!
