Mossy woodlands

On the path to Signal Rock in the An Torr woodlands, a lush mossy stand of trees occurs, reminiscent of areas in the Pacific Northwest rainforest. Signal Rock is the site where it is said that a fire was lit by the Campbells to signal the start of the Glencoe massacre in 1692. Glencoe, Lochaber, Scottish Highlands.

I was just thinking of the Pacific NW when I saw this green mossy place! Coming from a much more arid climate, I am very attracted to scenes like this.

What an incredible place. It's almost a fantasy land to my eyes. I can almost imagine some little forest creatures playing in the beautiful and lush understory. Awesome shot Terry!

Judy, we have areas like this in the PNW where deer have eaten the understory. I have some very similar pictures from Haida Gwaii.

You must have felt quite at home in this mossy forest. It is, nonetheless, quite different from the rain forests in the Pacific NW. The understory is so much more open.
