Henro kakashi with child
Kakashi (scarecrow dolls) at Kamiyama, Japan, depicting the Henro pilgrims (O Henro san) doing the 1200 km circumnavigation of the 88 Buddhist temples of Shikoku Island. The kakashi are wearing the traditional Henro attire, including white shirts, conical grass hats, stoles and carrying their staffs (kongō-zue), which are left at that last (88th) temple.
An interesting article describing the traditional attire of the pilgrims is here: http://www.shikokuhenrotrail.com/shikoku/walkingWhatToWear.html

on November 27, 2021Terrific shot and great info about the outfit for the pilgrims! I thought it was funny that the writer said the hats are such poor quality now that they are not waterproof and you have to have some sort of plastic over them. Love the hair on the middle pilgrim!
