Tree fungus
Several delicate polypores (bracket fungus, shelf fungus) colonize a fallen tree in the dark understory of a moist lowland forest on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. A ray of sunshine had penetrated the canopy and rim lit the fungus.

on January 6, 2022Great shot of the shelf fungi in perfect light. One thing that struck me in Costa Rica was the lushness, and how everything seemed to grow profusely. I remember fences made of wire and cut tree branches, which, after being made into the fences, sprouted small volunteer "trees" out of the tops of the cut fence posts.

on January 6, 2022These are so lovely in their own way with the variated colors and ruffled edges of the fungus. Very nice capture Terry!
