Sea stars
Purple and orange ochre sea stars (Piaster ochraceus), a bat star (Patiria miniata), barnacles, whelks, sea lettuce and rock weed populate the intertidal zone at low tide, Bischof Islands, Haida Gwaii, BC. Sea star wasting disease has devastated populations of several sea star species from Alaska to Mexico, including the now critically endangered sunflower sea star (Pycnopodia helianthoides), an important predator of the sea urchins that are linked to significant declines in kelp forests.

on August 10, 2021Very interesting--when we see undersea life, we don't usually know the backstory behind it, the meaning of what we see. Love all the colors of the sea stars.
