Maid of the Loch
The 1000 passenger 'Maid of the Loch' was the largest and last paddle steamer to be built in the UK. She was build in 1953 at the famous Clyde River shipyards in Glasgow. After assembly at the shipyard she was dismantled, and shipped by rail to Balloch at the south end of the Loch Lomond, where she was reassembled. She is now being restored in a dry dock at the south end of Loch Lomond.

on October 19, 2022Seems strange to assemble/dismantle/reassemble this steamer, but I guess that's one way to get it where it needs to go! Great shot of it!

on October 19, 2022She resembles the Mississippi River steamer boats...it will be great when she is restored and working again.

on October 19, 2022I've long been hoping that they will restore her one day and get her sailing from Balloch up the loch to Tarbert. Last time I saw her she was still in the water, looks like she has now been beached. Lovely shot, a reminder for me of so many trips to Scotland.
