Church of the Holy Rude
15th Century Church of the Holy Rude and its cemetery, with grave stones dating back to the 16th C, stands below Stirling Castle. The name of the church comes from a relic of the Holy Rood (True Cross). This is the only existing church in the UK to have held a coronation, other than Westminster Abbey. James VI of Scotland, who became James I of England, was crowned here as an infant in 1567. The marvelous original 15th C oak-timbered ceiling has been restored and is now visible. Stirling, Scotland

on October 26, 2022Wow, this photo encompasses such a plethora of various grave stones! Each tells a story and I can imagine was carefully and meticulously selected to represent the person whose grave they have been placed upon!

on October 26, 2022Oh my goodness! I love this view of the graveyard and the church. It transports me so far back in time, I can hardly imagine it, (and I have a very fertile imagination!) I would love to walk among those grave markers and imagine all the lives represented there!
