Remains of the 'G.M. Dawson'
More than 100 years ago there was a mining operation at Ikeda Cove in southern Haida Gwaii. The remains of the G. M. Dawson sternwheeler, built in 1898 in Vancouver by Canadian Pacific Railways, still lie on the beach. All that remains are a few rotting timbers and some rebar. It was brought in and beached at Ikeda Cove to be used as a bunkhouse.
The sternwheeler was intended for use on the Yukon River, but was never used. It was towed north by the tug "Pioneer" in 1901 and got as far as Wrangell, Alaska, and abandoned. Her engines went on to the Yukon River and the body to Ikeda Cove.

on August 29, 2021Terry, this is an incredible image. I'm glad you told us that this was once a sternwheeler because that was not what I thought when I first saw it. Sorry for the late comments.
