Plastic litter can kill!
The remote Chilko Lake / Chilko River area was really pristine with almost no evidence of litter anywhere, and with bear proof garbage cans in the park. So you can imagine my dismay when I saw this yearling grizzly cub playing with a plastic bag by the shore of the Chilko River. He/she was mouthing it and tugging on it for a few minutes and then fortunately abandoned it without ingesting any plastic. Unfortunately, with the mother bear near by, it wasn't safe for us to try to recover it.

on October 18, 2021A sad reminder of all of the damage that careless people are doing to our wildlife and environment by not disposing of plastic properly and same goes for those celebration balloons that people let fly and don't seem to care about the harm that they do.

on October 18, 2021Sigh....even there, plastic bags...so sad to see, but fortunately the cub apparently figured out there wasn't anything to eat there, and left it alone.

on October 18, 2021Thank goodness that the cub didn't swallow any of the plastic. This is so dangerous to our wildlife and it's so sad to see so much of it littering many places.

on October 18, 2021I see this all the time, especially on the beach. It seems people have no regard for where they throw their trash. Great shot of the little guy.

on October 18, 2021Such a sad testimony to what we have done to the world, even in places where major efforts have been undertaken to keep this kind of trash from ending up where animals can find it. I am glad he went on without eating any of it.

on October 18, 2021Glad the potential catastrophe was abandoned by the cub. Nice shot of the youngster working on it, however.
