Boardwalks

The raised boardwalks that are the roads throughout the village of Hartley Bay, BC on a misty day. There are no cars or trucks in the village and everyone gets around by walking or by quad bike, even the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). Notice the tsunami evacuation route sign in the centre of the image. The raised boardwalks provide access around the village and help protect the tidal marshlands around the Gabion salmon river. Even the houses are built on raised pilings.

One thing I forgot to share with you - is that Granddaughter Ashlee wants to study bio-Medicine. She's been accepted and is choosing to go to Texas A&M for her undergrad. Based on your career, I thought you'd be interested - not nano, but something similar.

Thanks a lot, Elizabeth...there is very little flat land in this area, except in the fragile coastal estuaries, so this is the best way to be able to build a town that is not underwater some of the time.

Very interesting to read how the residents are going to great lengths to protect a fragile environment

As always, thanks for the information. The police lady appears to be smiling; she has a welcoming countenance, but I'm sure it can change at the drop of a hat when "duty calls!"
