Crowds at the main entrance of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The mosque was opened in 2007 and it is the largest mosque in the UAE. The complex covers 30 acres and it can hold 40,000 worshippers. The complex has elements of Arab, Moorish and Indo-Islamic design. Top artisans from around the world were involved in its construction, using predominatly natural materials such as marble, stone, gold, crystal, semi-precious stones and ceramics. The workmanship is amazing and I was in awe of its stunning beauty. A strict dress code is in place for visitors to the mosque (head scarves and abayas for women) and shoes are not allowed.
