A safe place for a nest

A black-chested buzzard eagle (Chilean blue eagle, Geranoaetus melanoleucus) nesting on an inaccessible small ledge on a vertical cliff, Rio Nireguao O Coichel, Patagonia. The nest could only be seen from across a steep valley. (best larger)

Amazing that you were able to see and especially shoot this nest on the cliffside. So glad you did!

Amazing find and capture. ‘Safe’ seems like a relative term for this nest’s location. Safe from ground predators? Probably. Safe from aerial predators? Maybe; maybe not. Safe from accidents like falling out of the nest before the chick can fly or from weather or from the nest failing and falling into an abyss? I’m not convinced. It all looks pretty dicey to me.
