Festooned with barnacles

Just before it disappears underwater, the tail of a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is lit up by a shaft of light showing the gooseneck barnacles (Pollicipes polymerus) festooning the end of the fluke. Often the barnacles on whale of close but in this case you can see the full length of the goosenecks. Whale Channel, British Columbia (best larger to see the details of the barnacles)
