Dinner for the sled dogs
A ringed seal and buckets full of musk ox internal organs are dinner for the sled dogs in the previous image. The sled dogs have a rest during the few weeks of the year when the land is snow-free and work pulling the sleds when the snows cover the land. Ittoqqortoormiit, Scoresby Sund, East Greenland.

on September 2, 2020Trying to imagine how much of this kind of food must be required to feed all of those dogs. Must be tough for the people to get enough to feed themselves much less the dogs. Great documentary image and information.

on September 1, 2020If I was a dog, I would say Hummm ! That's yummy !
My dog isn't a sled dog but I did the choice to give her natural food... so I give her meat too .
Many thanks for your kind words ! I enjoyed my day with students.

on September 1, 2020I didn't realize that the people had musk ox there and the seal makes sense for a meat source. Great shot there Terry.

on September 1, 2020When I saw how many dogs there were, and realizing they needed meat, I was wondering what source this meat came from--you just answered some of those questions. All year long, especially when they are working hard, they need to eat--it seems that could be an issue all year long. It seems life could be pretty hard in this charming-looking village.
