Photographing bears

The photos you've been seeing recently of the bears and other wildlife on the salmon creek were taken from the heavily wooded banks of the creek after bushwacking in from the shore to the area where the salmon were spawning. The dense forest was often quite dark so high ISOs were needed for hand held photos and often tripods were used, but they didn't allow the quick response necessary to capture the best action shots (trees/branches were often in the way). This image gives an idea of the conditions. Gribbell Island, British Columbia
