Graveyards
From the weather station at the top of a hill, a view across to the hill with the Ittoqqortoormiit graveyard was possible. White crosses dot the lower (old) and upper (newer) graveyards located near the colourful houses, Liverpool Land, Scoresby Sund, East Greenland. Due to the hardness of the rocky land, the graves are 'dug' by using explosives.
P.S. Most of the supplies for the village come from Denmark and Iceland.

on September 15, 2020Very interesting about the graveyard and how they "dig" graves. That is something I hadn't even thought about--part of the everyday life details that are really different in such a remote location. Without being able to grow gardens, I guess just about everything (maybe except seals and muskoxen) needs to be shipped in. Wow, a very different life!
