The remains of the stove

A rusted cast iron stove and stove pipe lie inside a disintegrating abandoned old cabin on the shores of Danmark Ø overlooking Fonjord, Scorseby Sund, East Greenland. It is probably still capable of generating a little heat, but the only source of fuel in this treeless landscape is the cabin itself :-(

Re questions about fuel sources, in treeless landscapes you can burn fish, seal or whale oil, coal or peat (and also dried dung, but no large herds of herbivores here)

Neat capture. Looks like something that would make a great sculpture art piece the way you composed it.

Ditto what Judith said. I always wonder about the inhabitants and their lives within those walls. This is a poignant scene that it is all that remains of their lives there. Nice find. Great shot!

Seeing abandoned places like this always spark my imagination, wondering about the people who lived here at one time, and how or why that existence came to an end. When did the last person leave for the last time, did he look back and regret, or remember old times....of course if this was just a whaling cabin, not a habitation, it may have just gone by the wayside with changes in the whaling industry. Don't mind me, I can get carried away with my wonderings and imagination, but that just shows how important or evocative any one photograph can be!

If you can get the stove back together there's plenty of firewood. Nice composition.
