Mount Meru in winter
Mount Meru is the 5th highest peak in Africa at 4,562 M (14,968 ft) and is classified as a dormant stratovolcano, which has the classic cone shape. It is a quite near Mount Kilimanjaro and is a popular alternative climb to Kilimanjaro. Normally the peak is only visible very early in the morning, but we'd had a bit of cold weather and the day I flew by it I was lucky to see the top peaking though the clouds. Despite its height, since it is located near the equator it is pretty much snow free, but as I flew by it this winter day, there was a bit of snow near the top. It dominates the northern horizon of Arusha, Tanzania.
