Orangutan trying to fit as many bananas as possible into its mouth at a feeding station in Tanjung Puting National Park, Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The dominant animals come to the feeding stations first when the fruit is put out, and then the ones lower on the pecking order come. Some of the apes try to grab as much fruit as possible very quickly and then leave to stay out of trouble. Shoving lots of bananas into their mouths and then skeddaling seems to be a workable strategy. Since they need their hands for swinging through the trees, I guess their mouths are the only place they have to carry stuff. This young ape had six in his mouth, four of them still unpeeled.
