One to work, two to watch
A welder creates sparks on the yellow foot bridge that crosses Sunda Kelapa inner harbour, Jakarta, Indonesia. The ratio of watchers (or maybe we should call them 'supporters' ) to workers varies a bit as I travel around the world, but it is generally higher than 1 to 1 for the men, and I've seen instances of ratios higher than 10:1. However, I don't usually see any watchers for women workers, unless of course it's the men in the role of 'supervisors' :-) :-)
Judy, I've noticed that at many worksites (notice next time you go to a roadworks) that there are one or two people working and a number (of paid workers) that just stand around and watch them.
