  • L'anse aux Meadows is thought to be the location of the first Viking settlement in North America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this image the visitor center is framed by the 'Meeting of the two worlds' sculpture, completed in two pieces, one by Newfoundland sculptor Luben Boykov and the other by Swedish sculptor Richard Brixel. The two elements of the 3000 pound bronze sculpture symbolically correspond to the geographic points of departure and landing of the Vikings, and their subsequent meeting with Aboriginal peoples. Thanks for relaunching this one, BIRDS-WILDLIFE-AUSTRALIA, which gives me a chance to correct the mis-identification pointed out by Judith Sparhawk in a previous comment.

Beautifully composed nesting shot ! What a setting for a photo ! The shapes of the rocks and the colours on them are just stunning !

Terry--I know you always know so much about everywhere you go and shoot, so just wondered if the colors are true on this one. The gull has a very dark mantle for a Herring Gull--it might be something more exciting--I just don't know the birds in Newfoundland, suspect it isn't a Herring. It may not matter to you, but you are always so good with the facts, I just wondered.
