A hard life
A tired Red Dao (Dao Da, Red Yao) woman on a rainy day, pauses to take a brief rest. The border areas of Vietnam with China contain a number of ethnic minorities who still wear their ethnic attire. Taken in the Sa Pa area of northern Vietnam.
Although I often try to post photographs of smiling happy people, I think this image portrays another side of the life of the people living in these mountainous, largely rural areas who work long hard days and walk long distances. Her look was both resigned and introspective.

on August 28, 2016It could well be said that one does not really get old, rather one loses one's illusions, one by one. In Eastern philosophy, being born is seen as fatal mistake. With every day, this sinks in deeper and deeper. The look of weariness of it all on the face of this being is a confirmation of that truth. Great portrait, depicting life as it is. Not as we hope it might be......

on August 26, 2016Wonderful expression and an outstanding portrait! Thanks for the suggestion about shutter speed, but the doves actually rarely stay still for more than a second and on that day, the wind was blowing like crazy to boot.
