Bayon temple in the rain

Tourists with umbrellas exiting Bayon temple, Angkor Thom, Cambodia. The umbrellas add a spot of colour in an otherwise pretty monochrome scene.

The Tunpu are an ethnic minority that date back to the time when Han soldiers of the Ming Dynasty came to Southern China to suppress the locals tribes, and then settled there. Their Ming Dynasty culture survives a few Old Han villages in Guizhou Province to this day. The women still pluck the hair high on their foreheads.

Wonderful "in the moment" shot Terry. As you know from your travels, you go with whatever happens you are dealt. Your're in another country to explore the culture and see the country. Rain or sun doesn't deter the adventurous spirits. I remember my first visit to the UK. It rained every day that we were ther (7 days). I would take photos of my girlfriend and she odf me. When we shared with friends back home yhppthey said, "you wore the same clothes everyday." Well no we didn't. But we had the Sam raincoat and hood on everyday. This is a super photo.

I can imagine the tourists are thinking (or saying) to themselves, "Rain, rain....go away; come again another day!"

I like the occasional shot of travel destinations that show other visitors, for the sense of 'being there' that they provide. Lots of interesting details in this one, including the visiting hours, which start daily at 5:30 a.m. Good grief.

On one of your comments yesterday to some of my older shots that were showing up in the 'Popular Home' gallery, thanks largely to comments left by Donna ('nelli'), you wondered whether I was trying to upload as many shots as possible before 'the SM community packs it in'. Not at all. Except for my DP Community post for yesterday, all the photos of mine that were showing up, mainly cacti and swans, date back a number of years. The swans, for example, were photographed, and the pictures were posted, in 2008. I don't actually view the final demise of communities on smugmug as more than a minor perturbation in how I will use smugmug. It has always been true that participation in the DP Community constituted a relative small part of my overall photographic efforts. The bulk of what I do on the site won't change.
