Old Han (also called Tunpu) woman in traditional attire in the doorway of her house. The Tunpu are an ethnic minority that date back to the time when Han soldiers of the Ming Dynasty came to Southern China to suppress the locals tribes, and then settled there. Their Ming Dynasty culture survives a few Old Han villages in Guizhou Province to this day. The women still pluck the hair high on their foreheads.
