Terrace of the Elephants
The Terrace of Elephants in Angor Thom is a long (350 m) platform decorated with elephants and garudas (human-bird creature). It was built by Khmer King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th C and used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and to view his victorious returning army.

on April 13, 2016Highly stylized elephants, by the look of them. Jayavarman VII certainly thought on a grand scale.

on April 13, 2016I often wonder if the original builders had any idea that these works would last as long as they have. Especially noteworthy considering civil, military & political unrest over the centuries. Well captured.
