Colourful pinisi
Pinisi are the traditional wooden two masted sailing ships, based on an old Dutch design, that carry goods of all sorts between the Indonesian islands. They are built by master ship builders from hardwoods collected from the forests of Sulawsi Island. These days they have been mostly converted from sail to engines and the masts have been replaced by cranes. They make a colourful site lined up at the wharf at Sunda Kelapa harbour in Jakarta, Indonesia

on November 7, 2016It's interesting that there is still quite a bit of Dutch influence in Indonesia. I recall some of the architecture in Bali. I traveled there with someone originally from Holland, who spent his early childhood in a Japanese concentration camp on Java. Lots of history...
