Kitsune statue with rice stalk

The Fushimi Inari-taisha Shinto Shrine in Tokyo is devoted to Inari, the god of rice and many statues of foxes (kitsune) can be found around the temple grounds. I especially liked this one, where the fox is holding a stalk of rice in its mouth. The gai-haiden (outer shrine of worship) is in the background and a woman custodian in the foreground keeping the shrine immaculate.

I like the touch of having the everyday woman out front of the shrine, adding to the whole picture of life in the area.

I do love the statue and thank you for sharing the history behind the Kitsune. The lady in front is a great add to show the care and concern that they have for keeping the area clean. Well done. Thanks too for your comment today on the Zebra Finch. I had no idea what it was. It's interesting that you mentioned it's a native of Australia and wondered how it got to Texas. Actually, it was in a conservatory that we visited in your lovely home town. But, I still wonder how it made it from Australia to Vancouver. There were several of them, so perhaps they are thriving in the conservatory.

Nicely composed shot, with added immediacy or presence from the custodian. (Much better that, than a tourist taking a selfie)

    Nice shot and accompanying information!

Well, as the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end." it appears that the Daily Photos Community has bitten the dust! I will continue posting in my "Daily Dose of 1-A Day" 2016 gallery for the remainder of the year.
