Red berries
A small bush loaded with bright red berries in the fall, grows at the edge of a pond at Koke Dera (the moss temple, aka Saiho-ji) in the hills to the west of Kyoto, Japan (best larger).
In response to God Child's question, I think this is some kind of small Japanese cherry tree. The fruit of the Japanese cherry trees is said to be very sour, but not poisonous.
