The Seisho-mon Gate to the Imperial Palce, Kyoto, manned by the Imperial Guards. This is the entry gate for tours of the site. Entry is by special permit only, which has to be applied for in advance. The current Imperial Palace was reconstructed in 1855 after it had burnt down and been moved around Kyoto many times over the centuries. It was the residence of the Imperial Family until 1868 when the capitol was moved from Kyoto (West capital) to Tokyo (East capitol).
