Scavanging

A large male polar bear waiting for freeze-up on the shore of Hudson Bay gnaws on an old carcass he scavanged on the shoreline. The bears mostly live on stored fat at this time of year, but will eat berries, fungi, plants and kelp from along the coastline, as well as garbage from the local dump.

After a couple of bear attacks in the town, Churchill now takes care to keep bears out of the dump. Problem animals are captured and put into a bear jail until they can be released after freeze-up. Some of them are flown out of town and taken up north in a net below a helicopter (I've seen this in the past)
