  • Wedding couple. Note the fun socks<br /> <br /> The Bund, Shanghai, China. As the bride was walking down the promenade, I caught a glimpse of her fun socks and cool shoes, so I asked her if she would lift up her dress a little so I could get the socks in a photo,

This required a fast shutter speed (up to 1/640) and also a small aperature (up to f13), so a higher ISO (up to 1600) was required.

  • Wedding couple on The Bund<br /> <br /> It is very traditional for Chinese couples to go to The Bund for their wedding photos, with the Huangpu River and the Pudong skyline in the background. The Bund is a promenade along the Huangpu river, in the area of the former historic foreign concessions in Shanghai, across the river from the famous Pudong skyline.   • Night lights (best largest)<br /> <br /> There is a lot going on in this photo of the Pudong skyline in the late evening. <br /> <br /> First, the story of why so few buildings are lit up....at New Year's there was a number of deaths when the crowds panicked in the crowded viewing stands while viewing the fireworks over Pudong, so the famous lights of Pudong were turned off in mourning. <br /> <br /> Second, this was a very long exposure (30 sec) made possible by setting the ISO as its lowest value (64), setting the aperture at a very high value (f22) and using a 6 stop neutral density filter to hold back the light so the river would go smooth.<br /> <br /> Third, a freighter went through the scene as the shutter was open, so the streaks of light are from its mast head running light (yellow streak) and the starboard running light (green).<br /> <br /> Fourth, the extremely tall building in the background is the Shanghai tower, the 2nd tallest building in the world. They now have the lower two-thirds of the building finished and lit up inside and it will be completed soon, according to one of the building architects I talked to on the flight over.<br /> <br /> Fifth, I used a flood filter to put reflections of the skyline in the smooth water to add a little pizzaz since the skyline was darker than usual and didn't reflect well.<br /> <br /> A couple more shots from Shanghai can be seen here: <a href="http://goo.gl/aIqHP9">http://goo.gl/aIqHP9</a><br /> <br /> 17/02/15 <a href="http://www.allenfotowild.com">http://www.allenfotowild.com</a>
